Free-Choice Summer CSA Share
18 weeks | June - October
Totally customizable & accessible to all.
We grow more than 100 varieties of fruits and vegetables, from staples to specialties, and we do it all with practices that are more careful than the organic standard.
Here’s How It Works
-
Rather than offering set share sizes, Birdsong Farm CSA shares are sized by the number of ‘items’ you intend to take home each week of the season.
When you fill out the CSA signup form you will choose the number of weekly items that you would like—from four to 16. Most of our CSA members choose to take home between six and nine items per week.
‘Items’ are units of roughly equivalent value (about $4), such as: a pound of tomatoes, a bunch of carrots, one melon, a bunch of kale, two heads of garlic, two delicata squash, one pie pumpkin, two bunches of herbs, a pint of cherry tomatoes.
-
When you fill out our CSA Signup Form you’ll be asked to choose from the following pickup/delivery options.
On-farm pick up: Every Thursday afternoon from 3-8pm. We set out farmers’ market style tables full of produce that you choose from. Farmers are occasionally around to restock, but this is a self-serve, bring your own bag situation.
Delivery to home address: preorder your items by Wednesday each week or let us choose. We pack a box and bring it to your address. Delivery is available to Randolph, Bethel, Woodstock, Stockbridge, Royalton, SoRo, and Barnard. This option costs $5/week and is only available on a season-long basis. We may not be able to deliver to exceedingly remote addresses… ask us!
Delivery to On the Edge: preorder your items by Wednesday each week or let us choose. We pack a box and drop it at On the Edge Farmstand on Route 12 in Woodstock on Thursday afternoon.
Rochester Farmers Market: choose your items from our tent at the Farmers’ Market, 3-6pm every Friday afternoon.
South Royalton Farmers Market: choose your items from our tent on the South Royalton Green every Sunday 11-2pm

CSA shares are priced according to your chosen number of items per week and your ability to pay.
If you can afford to pay the Solidarity Price, then please do. Paying at this level covers the true cost of production and also allows our Pay What You Can model to remain sustainable into the future.
If you need support, then please Pay at-Cost or Pay a Little Less. No one is turned away.
The pricing options are explained in more detail below (and in our CSA signup form) and if you need help deciding what you should pay you can check out this graphic that we have borrowed.
Pricing Options:
Not sure what to pay? Take a look at this handy visual to help you decide.
Solidarity Price:
$72/weekly item ($4.00/item x 18 weeks)
Consider paying this price if it will not cause financial hardship. Paying at this level allows us to offer lower priced shares for those who need assistance.
Pay at-Cost:
$60/weekly item ($3.33/item x 18 weeks)
Consider paying this price if you are comfortably able to meet your basic needs and occasionally eat out or buy tickets. This level covers the actual cost of production, including a living wage for farmers.
Pay a Little Less:
$50/weekly item ($2.78/item x 18 weeks)
Consider paying this price if you have less expendable income and/or qualify for Green Mountain Care or 3SquaresVT.
CSA Frequently Asked Questions
-
A farm share is a portion of the harvest, provided in return for an upfront investment in the farm. This is a form of community supported agriculture (CSA), where individuals work together to make community-scale agriculture economically possible by sharing in the risks and rewards of farming.
-
You and other shareholders provide our farm with the economic security to plant and hire, knowing we have a community of folks who are invested in our food.
We offer you abundant food at a much lower price than you would spend at the farmers’ market or in the store. Depending on ability to pay, members receive 20-30% discount off market prices.
You get to access super fresh, hyper local food! We grow everything on the farm in Stockbridge, and we harvest as close to pickup/delivery as possible.
You support our efforts to build a diversified working farm that is capturing carbon, feeding our neighbors, and stewarding vibrant farmland for future generations.
-
We grow most of the vegetables you’ve heard of, and some you might not have! Most weeks will feature at least 25 crops to choose from and crops will rotate in and out throughout the season. On occasion, certain crops may be limited to 1 or more per share to make sure everyone can enjoy them.
